Benefits of Pilates

Pilates will challenge every individual differently. Our bodies come in many shapes and sizes and the stresses and strains we put upon them in everyday activities can have profound implications to our overall posture and sense of wellbeing. We all have different strengths and weaknesses. The technique is not a replacement for any activity but an addition to balance the body and mind. Movement is executed with control and focus using flowing movements to activate various muscle groups. Every exercise is controlled at centre by the contraction of the body’s core stabilisation muscles. Aligning the body and breathing is a focal point of the class. Focus is required in execution of movement.
My sessions are mat based workouts that require total mind and body concentration to achieve a new personal level of strength, mobility, stretch and relaxation. Pilates will help you to become more aware of your own body allowing you to identify your personal strengths and weaknesses. It has been used by both the rich and famous, which of late has given the technique much media interest, although originally it was ballet dancers who used the technique for strength, flexibility & rehabilitation of injury. More recently Rugby and Football clubs have included it as an important part of their training programmes. The teaching of Pilates is consistently researched and updated. Scientific research is balanced against the classical repertoire to provide the contemporary modified and adapted moves used.
